FMI is recognized as an industry leader in the project specific teambuilding and partnering arena. Since partnering’s entry in the construction industry in the late 1980s, FMI has served as facilitator on more than 1,000 projects in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Indonesia, South Africa, and the Philippines, representing more than $50 billion in contract value. FMI has worked with some of the largest infrastructure, general construction, and industrial projects in the western hemisphere in multiple types of project delivery methods, in the process establishing a baseline for the proper implementation of partnering on large, complex project situations. FMI is pragmatic in its approach to teambuilding. FMI’s process is focused on getting the right people together at the right time to make the right decisions that will directly impact the bottom line project issues of safety, schedule, budget, and quality. FMI tailors its approach to the specific needs of each project to ensure expectations are met and an appropriate return on investment is achieved for the participants. FMI has parlayed its 55 years of experience in the design and construction industry into the development of two approaches to project specific teambuilding. The first approach, FMI’s partnering process, is a recognized industry benchmark for how the process should be properly implemented. Numerous federal and state government agencies modeled their partnering programs based on this approach. In 1992 FMI was invited to Australia to introduce and implement the process throughout that country. Specific elements of FMI’s partnering process, such as the “rocks in the road” problem solving, have become common terminology within the industry. The second approach, FMI’s Continuous Partnering, is targeted toward larger, complex projects or for those clients with a commitment to enhanced follow-up and implementation of the partnering tools and principles. All activities are focused on collaboration and driving accountability to meet project objectives. The activities of this process are primarily accomplished on the job-site and in the client’s offices, adapting to the natural work environment of team members.
